Science Learning Centre courses in West Yorkshire

These Science Learning Centre courses will introduce the Twenty First Century Science suite of GCSEs to those who have no prior experience of Twenty First Century Science.

The courses will look in detail at the core GCSE Science course. Teachers will reflect on the importance of Ideas about Science and ways in which they can be introduced to students. Teachers will explore the relationship between teaching, learning and assessment, for example by considering best practice in preparing students for Skills Assessment.

Outcomes

Teachers will:
• have a better understanding of the philosophy and structure of the Twenty First Century Science suite
• appreciate the importance of each of the Ideas about Science, and how these might be introduced to students
• consider how students can be best prepared for the Case Study, Data Analysis and Investigation assessment activities
• become familiar with a variety of published resources and other support for teaching Twenty First Century Science
