Teaching and Learning

The Twenty First Century Science courses recognise that students have different interests and aspirations.

Science provides the knowledge and skills which everyone needs in making everyday choices and decisions, and in forming a personal viewpoint. Future scientists need this too. During the course, students
• learn some key science explanations
• gain an insight into how science works
• do practical work
• have an opportunity to discuss, analyse and develop arguments.
See Science

Additional Science and Additional Applied Science provide more specialised knowledge and skills required for particular career or education routes.

Additional Science introduces the scientific concepts needed for further study as AS level. The teaching emphasises models and explanations, and develops investigative approaches. See Additional Science

Additional Applied Science is based on contemporary, work-related contexts. The teaching emphasises the skills of science practitioners and gives opportunities for extended practical problem-solving. See Applied Science
